[Saba Sports News] In the women’s singles final of the 2025 Korea Open Badminton Championships, Akane Yamaguchi swept An Se Young 2-0 to successfully claim the women’s singles title, while the home favorite An Se Young only managed to secure the runner-up position. After losing the world championship title, An Se Young’s form was actually very good; she won the China Masters with an impressive 5-match winning streak (without dropping a single game), and after returning home to Korea, she advanced to the final with another 4-match winning streak (also without dropping a game). Unexpectedly, despite this strong momentum, she was swept by Yamaguchi in the final! It is worth mentioning that in the women’s singles semifinal of the China Masters, An Se Young had swept Akane Yamaguchi 2-0. An Se Young had won all three of her previous encounters against Yamaguchi in the 2025 season, yet within just a few days, she was swept by Yamaguchi in revenge. With this loss, An Se Young missed out on her eighth title of the 2025 season and also failed to win her third Korea Open title. However, An Se Young seemed quite happy during the award ceremony. She talked about losing to Yamaguchi: “Many fans came to the venue. I originally wanted to achieve a good result at home, but it’s a pity in the end. Player Yamaguchi was very fast, and I kept trying to keep up with her speed, but ultimately I was led by the nose by my opponent.”
