[Saba Sports News] Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, has earned his place as a top young talent. On Thursday, just before the Lakers’ pick, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin confirmed that Anthony Davis fully supported drafting Bronny.
“I spoke to Anthony Davis this morning about Bronny James, and he said, ‘I wouldn’t be mad at the team if we took him at 55 and see where it goes from there.’ AD told me he watched Bronny work out several times in the pre-draft process and was ‘really impressed’ with his ability to break down defenses and set up his teammates for success.”
Bronny only worked out for the Lakers and the Suns this summer, making a strong impression on Davis, a key player for the Lakers moving forward.
At 31, Davis remains in his prime and will lead the Lakers for the foreseeable future. His approval of drafting Bronny likely reassured the team.
Bronny had a modest season at USC, averaging 4.8 points and 2.1 assists per game on 38% shooting, but he showed potential as a playmaker and scorer. At 6’2″, he lacks his father’s height and superstar presence but brings natural athleticism, advanced game understanding, and leadership rare for his age. The Lakers believe he can contribute next season and hope this move encourages LeBron James to stay until the end of his career.
