[Saba Sports News] The Asia Cup 2023 final saw India dominate Sri Lanka, bundling them out for just 50 runs in 15.2 overs, thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s exceptional spell of six wickets for 21 runs. Vice-captain Hardik Pandya also made a significant contribution, taking three wickets to secure India’s victory.
Upon his return to Mumbai after leading the Indian cricket team to a convincing 10-wicket win in the final, Captain Rohit Sharma displayed his humility. He took time to connect with fans and even police officers, posing for selfies and photographs at Kalina airport, where a crowd had gathered to celebrate their heroes.
For Rohit Sharma, this marked his second Asia Cup victory as captain, having previously led India to victory in 2018. In the recent tournament, he showcased his batting prowess, accumulating 194 runs in five innings, including three consecutive half-centuries against Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Reflecting on the victory, Rohit praised the team’s bowlers for their clinical performance and highlighted the mental strength displayed by the players in the high-pressure final. He expressed anticipation for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia and the 2023 ODI World Cup.
He stated, “Yeah was a great performance. To come out and play like that in the final shows the mental character. Great start with the ball and a clinical finish with the bat. Such a performance we will cherish for a long time. We did everything we could’ve achieved as a team in this tournament.”
“Look forward to the series that is coming up in India, and then the World Cup. The way Hardik and Ishan batted in that pressure situation against Pakistan, and then KL and Virat got hundreds. The way Gill has been batting. Guys have stood up at various stages,” he added.
