[Saba Sports News] American businessman John Textow, the owner of Lyon and Botafogo, recently discussed match-fixing in an interview with the media. Textow mentioned that someone once told him that one Premier League match is rigged every year, and perhaps two in France. However, he emphasized that it becomes increasingly challenging to manipulate matches with the presence of cameras, VAR, and global scrutiny. When asked about the case involving Lucas Paqueta, Textow acknowledged that he was not well-informed but considered it a good example. He also candidly mentioned instances where low-level officials were recorded manipulating matches in high-level games. The Brazilian Football Association has established a working group to combat match-fixing. With Paqueta‘s case and other similar incidents, it is clear that this issue is not limited to one season or one country. Are the players being paid? Have they been threatened? What are the fans’ thoughts on match-fixing?
