[Saba Sports News] Babar Azam, Pakistan’s cricket captain, emphatically denied the swirling speculations of a reported verbal clash with teammate Shaheen Afridi during the virtual semi-final against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023. Addressing the media at a pre-departure press conference in Lahore, where the team was set to leave for the ICC World Cup 2023 in India, Babar categorically dismissed any discord within the squad.
Earlier reports suggested that the Pakistan skipper had expressed dissatisfaction with the performances of senior players, resulting in a spirited exchange with Shaheen Afridi.
It was reported that wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan had to step in to mediate the situation. When asked about this at the press conference, Babar said, “Everyone gives me respect. When you lose close matches, there may be disagreements in team meetings, but this was taken out of context as a duel between us.” He added, “There’s nothing like this. We have the same respect for each other and will remain the same. We love each other like a family.”
Babar and Shaheen put these rumors to rest when Babar attended Shaheen’s wedding reception in Islamabad, showcasing their unity and camaraderie. A viral photograph of both players at the event reaffirmed the close bond they share.
Babar also extended his heartfelt congratulations to his teammate on social media, emphasizing the importance of camaraderie and unity in cricket and in life.
On the same day, Shaheen had shared a photograph of himself with Babar, captioning it “Family,” putting all rumors to rest.
