[Saba Sports News] Starting this month, all domestic badminton tournaments in India will fully adopt a 15-point scoring system per game. The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has confirmed that the new best-of-three format with 15 points per game will be officially implemented across all national-level tour events. The first competition to feature this new rule set is the Yonex-Sunrise All India Senior Ranking Tournament, scheduled to take place at the Ernakulam Regional Sports Centre from July 7 to 14. Under the new scoring regulations, matches remain best-of-three games, yet each game is played to 15 points instead of the previous 21-point format. If players or pairs reach 14-all at the end of a game, they still need to hold a two-point lead to secure the game. Should the deadlock persist up to 20-all, the next single point will decide the winner, with a maximum cap of 21 points per game. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) plans to roll out this identical scoring system uniformly for all international tournaments starting January next year.
The editor believes that the Badminton Association of India decided to roll out the new scoring rules ahead of schedule to help Indian players fully adapt to the rhythm before the new system is fully implemented at international events. This move aims to ensure competitors of all age groups get familiar with and adjust to the revised scoring format, enabling them to make a smooth transition when the new rules take effect on the global badminton stage.
