[Saba Sports News] March 28 — Badminton world champion Zhou Haodong held his wedding. On China’s largest badminton forum, a netizen posted photos from Zhou’s wedding, drawing strong attention from fans. The photos show Zhou moved to tears while his bride gently wiped them away; the loving scene prompted many fans to leave congratulatory messages. Zhou Haodong, who just turned 28 last month, is a member of the Zhejiang badminton team and specializes in men’s doubles. He rose to fame young: in 2016, partnering with Han Chengkai, he won both mixed and men’s doubles titles at the Badminton Asian Junior Championships and the BWF World Junior Championships, completing a junior “grand slam.” In their first season at the senior level, Zhou and Han posted winning percentages above 50% in BWF events and were seen as future successors for China’s men’s doubles. The pair were selected for China’s Sudirman Cup mixed-team squad in 2019 and stood on the top of the podium with the team — Zhou’s first world championship title in his career. Later, Han Chengkai retired early due to injury and other reasons; Zhou was paired with other partners but achieved poor results. At last year’s 15th National Games of China, Zhou — troubled by injuries — did not appear in competition, and his athletic career sadly came to an end.
