[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation (BWF) officially announced that Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, the world champion from India, has been elected as the chairperson of the BWF Athletes’ Commission for the 2026 to 2029 term, garnering significant attention from fans. Previously, in October, the BWF announced the members of the new Athletes’ Commission for the 2026–2029 term, which includes An Se-young, HANY Doha, Jia Yifan, Debora Jille, and Sindhu.
According to the BWF’s announcement, the Athletes’ Commission serves as an advisory body to the BWF Council, providing opinions on key issues such as rules and regulations, athlete welfare, and the overall experience of players in international tours. In simpler terms, the Athletes’ Commission listens to the opinions and suggestions of athletes, collects them, and then provides feedback to the BWF, acting as a communication bridge between the BWF and athletes.
After the committee members were announced, a chairperson was elected through internal voting. Sindhu from India was successfully elected, making her one of the members of the BWF Council. The previous chairperson of the BWF Athletes’ Commission was Greysia Polii, the gold medalist in women’s doubles at the Tokyo Olympics.
