[Saba Sports News] During France’s comfortable 3-0 win over Iraq, a World Cup photo of Michael Olise released by Bayern Munich stunned numerous fans. The reason was a prominent scar on the French player’s left leg. German tabloid Bild explained that the scar stemmed from a severe injury. On 25 June 2023, in the U21 European Championship group stage fixture where France beat Norway 1-0, Olise suffered a severe muscle tear in his left thigh and required surgery, which left him with this clearly visible scar to this day. Olise had to use crutches for several weeks and wear a leg brace for support. After picking up that serious injury in November 2023, Olise only returned to action four and a half months later. Shockingly, just three months after his comeback, he sustained another thigh injury that sidelined him for eight more weeks.
The editor believes that this scar is a mark left from the toughest period of Olise’s career to date. After recovering from his injury and making his comeback, he caught the eye of Bayern Munich, who signed him from Crystal Palace in July 2024 for an initial transfer fee of around 51 million euros.
