[Saba Sports News] Peter Windsor, former Williams team manager and current F1 journalist, claimed that a current F1 driver is secretly testing a WRC car and performing very well. Many fans speculate that this mysterious driver is Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu’s teammate, as Bottas tested a Ford Fiesta WRC car at the end of 2018 and participated in the Arctic Circle Lapland Rally in 2019, finishing fifth overall and winning a stage. Ahead of this weekend’s Dutch F1 Grand Prix, Bottas directly addressed this issue, stating that his last WRC test was two years ago and that he is not the mysterious driver; it is someone else. When asked by reporters if he would switch to WRC if negotiations for an F1 seat next year do not go well, Bottas claimed that he participates in rally racing for fun and prefers to compete in F1 as a professional driver. Finally, Bottas expressed interest in Audi’s F1 project and stated that his primary goal has always been to be part of Audi. As he learns more about Audi’s F1 project, he believes it will eventually succeed. Some fans noted that Bottas clearly remains confident about his driver seat for next year. He believes that with Carlos Sainz’s signing and the arrival of new team COO Mattia Binotto, his chances of renewing his contract have significantly increased.
