[Saba Sports News] The Boston Celtics are reportedly showing interest in a player who has previously been with two of their competitors. According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports, during an episode of the “Ball Don’t Lie” podcast, it was mentioned that the Celtics have been keen on Chris Boucher of the Toronto Raptors.
Boston is looking to bolster their frontcourt, supporting Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis. However, acquiring Boucher, who earns $11.7 million, might require the Celtics to trade away a significant asset.
At 30 years old, Boucher has two NBA championships to his name, winning with the Golden State Warriors in 2018 and the Raptors in 2019. He also earned the NBA G League MVP title in 2019.
Despite his achievements, Boucher has seen limited playtime with the Raptors, who are currently in a rebuilding phase, averaging just 14.2 minutes per game off the bench this season. Boucher stands out as a capable shot-blocker and a versatile defender with some proficiency in three-point shooting, a skill that Boston’s current third big man, Luke Kornet, lacks.
With an impressive 28-7 record this season, the Celtics are not under pressure to make any significant changes before the February 8 trade deadline. However, adding a player like Boucher could be a subtle yet effective enhancement. There’s also talk of Boston considering another familiar face for their bench as the trade deadline approaches.
