[Saba Sports News] Chen Yufei, China’s top women’s singles badminton player, missed the 2026 Badminton Asia Championships held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province due to injury. However, she has kept training intensively to prepare for the Thomas & Uber Cup in Horsens, Denmark, at the end of April this year. To boost her training efficiency, Chen Yufei has been wearing a weighted sand vest in recent sessions. She commented that her training over the past few days has been solid, and the special training has improved her overall on-court ability and speed. She hopes to surprise fans at the Thomas & Uber Cup.
A weighted sand vest, originally used for military professional training, features multiple small pockets into which iron sand, river sand, or steel plates can be added as needed. Its load is adjustable, ranging from 3kg to 30kg. Fitness experts point out that training with a weighted vest offers many benefits. Firstly, it enhances cardiovascular and respiratory functions, helping badminton players maintain stamina during long rallies. Secondly, it boosts metabolism and assists in weight management. Lastly, it strengthens the nervous system, particularly relieving mental fatigue, preventing neurasthenia, and helping regulate the body’s internal balance and mood.
In our view, training with a weighted sand vest is one of the key strategies for Chen Yufei to break through her bottleneck and maintain top-level competitiveness, reflecting both the scientific nature of her training and her diligent work ethic.
