[Saba Sports News] Chet Holmgren may have made adjustments to what wasn’t exactly broken.
The Oklahoma City Thunder big man was the focus of a viral video before Monday’s preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs. In a video it shows Holmgren shooting with a seemingly altered form.
Holmgren appears to have changed his hand placement, letting his guide hand leave the ball before release. Another angle from Lorenzi shows Holmgren shooting from the top of the three-point arc with what seems like a less fluid, almost slingshot-like motion. Despite making most of his warmup shots, his release didn’t look very smooth.
Last season, the 22-year-old was an All-Rookie First Team selection, averaging 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game.
He’s known for his perimeter skills, shooting 4.3 threes per game at a 37% clip.
While the new form seems to add more arc, Holmgren—who still faces scrutiny over his slender frame two years after being drafted—now has a revamped shot that will be closely watched as he heads into the 2024-25 season.
