[Saba Sports News] The LA Clippers are facing a significant departure as associate head coach Dan Craig is set to join the Chicago Bulls, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Craig will assume a role as one of the top assistants under Bulls head coach Billy Donovan. Having spent the last four seasons with the Clippers, Craig was primarily responsible for the team’s defensive strategy and often acted as the interim head coach in Tyronn Lue’s absence.
His coaching credentials include a successful tenure as an assistant with the Miami Heat for seven seasons and leading Miami’s G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, to a championship in 2016.
Craig’s move is a strategic gain for the Bulls, who are looking to bolster their defensive coaching after ranking 19th in defensive efficiency this season.
His hiring follows the Bulls’ recent addition of another former NBA head coach to Donovan’s staff. Meanwhile, the Clippers face a challenging offseason, with key players like Paul George, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook eligible for free agency, and head coach Tyronn Lue entering the final guaranteed year of his contract.
The Clippers are now tasked with finding a suitable replacement for Craig’s critical role within the team.
