[Saba Sports News] IndyCar star Colton Herta has risen to second place in the championship standings after a dominant victory at the Nashville Super Speedway final, reigniting fans’ interest in his qualification for an F1 super license. The Race shared an image via X claiming Herta “seems to have obtained a super license.” Fans around the world who saw this image mistakenly believed Herta was qualified to compete in F1; however, he has not yet obtained an F1 super license. According to FIA regulations, drivers must accumulate 40 super license points to qualify for an F1 super license. Typically, drivers can count their results from two championships each year over the past three years towards their super license points. However, due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 affecting every championship worldwide, drivers can currently calculate their best results from three championships over the past four years. Herta has been a full-time IndyCar driver since 2019, meaning most of his super license points will come from IndyCar. In 2021, Herta finished fifth in IndyCar and earned 8 super license points; in 2022, he finished tenth and earned 1 point; in 2023, he again finished tenth for another point; and in 2024, he finished second and earned 30 points. If you add together Herta’s results from either 2021 or 2022 or 2023 with those from 2024, he only has 39 points. Although Herta has completed over 100 kilometers driving an F1 car during free practice sessions, he is still not qualified for an F1 super license.
