[Saba Sports News] Klay Thompson is mourning the loss of a beloved companion.
Rocco Thompson, Klay’s longtime dog and one of the NBA’s most iconic pets, has passed away. The news was shared by Klay’s father, Mychal Thompson, during an appearance on ESPN’s Mason and Ireland this week.
“We had to put Rocco, Klay’s dog, down over the weekend,” Mychal said, according to Gabe Fernandez of SFGATE. “We were all sad, but Rocco had a great, long life.”
Rocco, an English bulldog born in 2012, became a fan favorite throughout Klay’s time with the Golden State Warriors. He even had his own Instagram account and often stole the spotlight with his laid-back demeanor and goofy moments that occasionally went viral.
Klay frequently shared pictures and stories about Rocco, showing how much he meant to him both on and off the court.
From championship parades to beachside hangs, Rocco was with Klay through every high and low, including all four of his titles with the Warriors. He remained part of the family even after Klay signed with the Dallas Mavericks this past offseason.
Though Rocco is gone, he leaves behind memories of a loyal and much-loved companion — and a legacy as perhaps the most famous dog in NBA history.
