[Saba Sports News] Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings captain, is facing a legal challenge as his former business partners, Mihir Diwakar and his wife Soumya Das, have filed a defamation lawsuit against him. This lawsuit seeks to prevent Dhoni from making any unsubstantiated allegations that could tarnish the couple’s reputation.
The case is set to be heard at the Delhi High Court, with the initial hearing scheduled for Thursday, January 18. Justice Pratibha Singh will preside over the hearing, with advocates Rishi Awasthi and Smarhar Singh representing the plaintiffs, Mihir Diwakar and others.
The dispute stems from a 2017 agreement between Diwakar, his wife, and Dhoni to operate cricket academies globally, which Dhoni allegedly breached. Following this, Dhoni and his associates accused Diwakar of defrauding him, claims that Diwakar is now contesting in the High Court.
Diwakar has argued that these false allegations, circulated in the media, have damaged his reputation. As part of the lawsuit, he has requested that social media and publishing platforms remove any content that allegedly spreads false information about him. This request was prompted by a January press conference held by Dayanand Sharma, Dhoni’s lawyer, who accused Diwakar of fraud and of operating academies under Dhoni’s name without authorization.
In a separate legal move, Dhoni filed a criminal complaint against Diwakar for breach of trust, forgery, cheating, and criminal conspiracy under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
