[Saba Sports News] On Monday, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum finally reached the NBA summit, leading his team to a 106-88 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at TD Garden. The win secured the Celtics’ 18th championship, breaking their tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most in NBA history.
Fans joked about Tatum possibly recreating Kobe Bryant’s iconic 2001 NBA Finals photo, where Bryant posed with the Larry O’Brien trophy in the showers after winning the title. Tatum seemed to channel another memorable celebration during his postgame interview, shouting “We did it!” into the mic, reminiscent of Kevin Garnett’s “Anything is possible!” scream after the Celtics won the 2008 title.
Tatum finished Game 5 with 31 points, 8 rebounds, 11 assists, and 2 steals. Although he didn’t win the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP Trophy, which went to teammate Jaylen Brown, Tatum had already made peace with potentially not receiving the award before Game 5.
