[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, after the controversial cancellation of the traditional FA Cup replay in case of a draw, the English Football Association has agreed to add an extra £2.34 million to the total prize pool of the FA Cup. In April this year, an angry English Football League (EFL) stated that after reaching an agreement between the Premier League and the FA, the EFL would seek compensation for clubs at its three levels. The Premier League and the FA claimed that their move was aimed at alleviating scheduling pressures on clubs—an angry EFL called this move “frustrating and disappointing.” It is reported that after a series of high-level talks between both sides, the EFL and the FA have reached an agreement on the form of compensation. The FA decided to add an extra £2.34 million in prize money for matches from rounds 1 to 3 of this season’s FA Cup. They estimate that compared to last season, prize distributions will increase by about 38%. Clubs eliminated in round 1 will receive a bonus income of £15,000, while last season clubs eliminated in round 1 received no bonuses. Teams knocked out in round 2 will receive £65,000 (up from £41,000). Those teams eliminated in round 3 will get £145,000 each, which is £37,000 more than last season.
