[Saba Sports News] Former Denver Nuggets guard Facundo Campazzo is fondly remembered by fans as the point guard who stepped in while Jamal Murray was recovering from an ACL tear.
During that period, Campazzo often found himself guarding some of the NBA’s top players, including Stephen Curry. Now playing for Real Madrid, Campazzo shared his experiences of facing trash talk from rappers and Draymond Green while defending Curry.
Campazzo recalled, “I had to defend Stephen Curry and Trae Young… There were rappers in the front row saying, ‘Attack him, he can’t defend you! Look, he doesn’t know how to defend!’ And I was thinking, ‘Please don’t attack me! Or don’t make me end up in the top 10 of the week.’ When defending Curry, Draymond would tell me, ‘No matter how you defend him, he’s going to score 30 points on you, so ask your coach to switch you out.’”
During his time with the Nuggets, Campazzo averaged 5.6 points, 3.5 assists, and 1.1 steals. After a brief stint with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2022-23 season, he returned to the EuroLeague to play for Real Madrid.
The Nuggets faced the Warriors in the first round of the 2022 Playoffs, where Campazzo had the tough task of guarding Curry. The Warriors won the series in five games and went on to win the championship that season, marking Campazzo’s last experience with the Nuggets before leaving the NBA.
