The incident began during the first round of women’s singles, where Chen Yufei faced Scottish player Kirsty Gilmour. A “professional” commentator, Li, made excessive negative remarks about Chen Yufei’s performance during the live broadcast. Although there were no explicit insults, his words were filled with sarcasm, which displeased Chen Yufei’s fans. After the match, Chen Yufei’s fans continuously complained to the official platform, demanding an apology from the commentator. A few days later, under public pressure, the live broadcast platform eventually terminated its contract with Li and ended all future collaborations. Summarizing the fans’ complaints, there were two main points: first, the commentator lacked professional knowledge and believed that aggressive shots were the correct playing style for female singles players; second, the commentator showed bias against the athlete, making unfair commentary while continuously belittling Chen Yufei’s abilities.
