[Saba Sports News] Karl-Anthony Towns’ injury during Saturday’s game between the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls left fans pointing out an ironic twist.
The 4-time All-Star exited the game late in the fourth quarter after landing awkwardly while completing a fastbreak layup through contact. Towns limped off and headed to the locker room shortly after.
The game, played at the United Center in Chicago, coincided with Derrick Rose Night—a tribute to the former MVP. Adding to the irony, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau, who coached Rose during his prime years with the Bulls, faced renewed criticism for overplaying his stars.
Fans were quick to highlight the eerie connection, noting Thibodeau’s history of heavy minutes for his key players. Towns had already played 42 minutes in the Knicks’ intense matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder the night before. On Saturday, he logged 37 minutes despite the Knicks trailing by as many as 17 points late in the game.
Thibodeau’s reputation for over-relying on his starters has long been a topic of debate, and Towns’ injury on a night honoring Rose—whose career was heavily impacted by injuries—felt like an unfortunate case of history repeating itself.
