[Saba Sports News] According to F1-insider, Ferrari Chairman John Elkann is recently having second thoughts about continuing with Frederic Vasseur at the helm of the Ferrari F1 project and is forming a new plan in his mind. The report states that as the Frenchman’s position is being questioned, and with former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner free to join any team in any capacity from the spring of 2026, he could become Elkann’s preferred candidate to replace Vasseur. Towards the end of last year, Ferrari was still McLaren’s closest competitor, widely seen as the primary threat. However, Ferrari’s challenge has not materialized as hoped. With six Grands Prix and three Sprint races remaining in the 2025 season, Ferrari has yet to win a Grand Prix this year. Compounding the issues, the Italian team has faced repeated setbacks throughout this unusually tense season. From both cars being disqualified in China, to Lewis Hamilton’s emotionally difficult statements in Hungary, to defying team orders in Baku, Ferrari arrived in Singapore only to again fail to deliver a satisfactory result. Last Saturday, both drivers believed the car had the potential for better qualifying performance, but for some reason, this potential wasn’t realized, with both drivers ultimately qualifying only sixth and seventh. Both SF-25 cars suffered from brake overheating issues during the race, which hampered Hamilton’s efforts for a strong fifth place, instead resulting in a penalty that dropped him from seventh to eighth. Earlier this season, Vasseur’s position was already under scrutiny, with him reacting strongly to speculation in the Italian media about his Ferrari tenure potentially ending prematurely during the Canadian Grand Prix.
