He has become a successful entrepreneur and founded a biotechnology company, which is now worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Flamini believes, with a sharp logic, that football needs better environmental protection for the sake of football itself. Starting with jerseys, they are the main product of the sport and are sold in large quantities, only to be discarded later. According to research by the Waste and Resources Action Programme, about 100,000 tons of sportswear end up in UK landfills every year. Flamini said, “These clothes are made from fossil chemicals. These chemicals eventually enter the ground and the water we drink.” During his playing career, Flamini began to worry about the impact of climate change and environmental pollution and often expressed his views to his teammates. As Flamini’s career continued into his 36th year, his dietary ideas resonated with others. Regarding this, Flamini said he has been a vegetarian since age 15: “Reducing the intake of animal protein can lower the acidity in the blood, resulting in fewer injuries, better performance, faster recovery, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions, killing two birds with one stone.”
