[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, Ólafur Gottskálksson, former goalkeeper of Brentford, survived a knife attack and assault by intruders at his home. The former Iceland international goalkeeper spent two seasons with Brentford, making 73 league appearances for the club before leaving in 2002. Gottskálksson also played for Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, and later for Margate and Torquay United. The 58-year-old former professional footballer recently revealed on social media that he was attacked and robbed at his home in Iceland and is still recovering. He stated that during the home invasion on February 4, three men stabbed him 14 times, beat him with brass knuckles, and stole Apple devices and other belongings. The former player, who was capped 10 times by Iceland, posted photos of his facial and back wounds on Facebook, saying five of his injuries required stitches.
The editor believes that many people with less severe injuries than Gottskálksson did not survive. He is grateful to be alive and able to speak out for himself. It is hoped that the perpetrators will realize that they could well have faced trial for murder.
