[Saba Sports News] According to the latest media reports, Tim Mayer, son of former F1 McLaren team principal Teddy Mayer, is considering running for FIA President in December. He will compete against the current FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Tim Mayer later confirmed this, stating that the current president’s tenure has been marked by constant controversy, including the successive departure of senior personnel, a rift with drivers, and unfulfilled promises regarding transparency and governance structure reform. Mayer, a former FIA steward with 34 years of industry experience, stated his motivation for running is to restore the FIA’s core values, give a voice to smaller teams, and honestly address the changes needed. According to FIA rules, for Mayer to run for president, he must assemble a slate of candidates from different regions of the world and secure votes from 245 member clubs across 149 countries – a highly challenging task. Furthermore, Ben Sulayem, as the incumbent president, possesses certain resources and influence and is likely to counter Mayer’s campaign. Mayer will need to overcome significant obstacles to achieve his electoral goal.
