[Saba Sports News] Teams looking to boost their rebounding ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline may have a solid option on the table.
NBA writer Jake Fischer reported on Substack this week that the Atlanta Hawks are actively shopping center Clint Capela and are looking to move him before the deadline. Capela is in the final year of his contract, valued at $22.3 million.
Standing 6-foot-10 with a 7-foot-5 wingspan, Capela has proven to be a reliable presence in the paint. He led the league in rebounding during the 2020-21 season with 14.3 boards per game, played a key role in the Hawks’ run to the Eastern Conference Finals that same year, and continues to contribute this season with averages of 10.0 points and 9.4 rebounds in just 23.0 minutes per game.
However, at 30 years old, Capela no longer aligns with Atlanta’s long-term plans. He’s also limiting the development of 24-year-old Onyeka Okongwu, who has more offensive potential and is ready for an expanded role.
With the Hawks sitting at 14-14 and stuck in basketball purgatory, Capela could be on the move—potentially alongside another intriguing name from Atlanta’s roster.
