[Saba Sports News] Gregg Popovich has seen yet another of his former players retire. Gorgui Dieng, a seasoned NBA player, recently declared his retirement after fulfilling his career goal of playing for 10 seasons. Dieng, speaking to Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News, explained that he always aimed to play for a decade before exploring new ventures. He has now taken up a role in the Spurs front office as a basketball operations representative.
Dieng, 33, played two of his 10 NBA seasons with the Spurs, with his final professional season being in 2022-23. Renowned for his versatility on the court, he averaged 7.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game throughout his career.
He was initially a starter on the Louisville team that won the 2013 NCAA title, later drafted as a first-round pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2013. Dieng also played for the Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks. Now retired from playing, he continues his basketball journey in a front office role.
