[Saba Sports News] Giannis Antetokounmpo says his postgame confrontation with Tyrese Haliburton’s father didn’t happen without provocation.
Following the Milwaukee Bucks’ season-ending 119-118 overtime loss to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday, Antetokounmpo was involved in multiple heated exchanges—including one with Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin and another with John Haliburton, father of Indiana star Tyrese Haliburton.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Antetokounmpo explained that John Haliburton stepped onto the court and taunted him as the final buzzer sounded, which sparked their tense interaction.
“I believe in being humble in victory,” Antetokounmpo said. “Some people think that when you win, you have a green light to be disrespectful—I don’t agree with that.”
“At first I thought he was just a fan,” Antetokounmpo continued. “Then I realized it was Tyrese’s dad. I love Tyrese, I think he’s a great competitor. But his dad came onto the court, holding a towel with Tyrese’s face on it, and said, ‘This is what we do. This is what we f—ing do.’ That, to me, is extremely disrespectful.”
Antetokounmpo emphasized that the language and aggression were uncalled for: “Coming at me like that, cursing and taunting, that’s not OK. I’m not someone who points fingers—I’m not trying to get anyone fined—but that kind of behavior crosses the line.”
He added that the two spoke afterward and seemed to have resolved things: “I think we’re in a good place now.”
Footage later confirmed John Haliburton walking onto the court with the towel in hand and shouting in Antetokounmpo’s direction.
The incident capped a tense series in which Tyrese Haliburton hit the game-winner with 1.3 seconds left and marked yet another chapter in the Bucks’ ongoing rivalry with the Pacers.
