[Saba Sports News] Giannis Antetokounmpo’s longtime Milwaukee Bucks teammate believes the superstar has no plans to leave.
Bucks forward Bobby Portis appeared Monday on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back and gave a firm prediction about Antetokounmpo’s future: he’s staying in Milwaukee.
“When you’ve been on a team for over a decade and done so much for a city — honestly, basketball in Milwaukee didn’t really have this kind of spotlight until Giannis became who he is,” Portis said, via HoopsHype. “When you put that much effort, trust, and belief into a franchise and stay loyal that long … I just feel like he bleeds green. No matter what’s reported or what might come up.”
Portis doubled down: “Me personally? Nah, I don’t see any movement happening. I think he’s staying put with the Bucks.”
Portis and Antetokounmpo have been teammates since 2020, a stretch that includes winning the 2021 NBA Championship together.
Though Antetokounmpo is under contract for two more guaranteed seasons, speculation about his future has intensified. The Bucks have been eliminated in the first round three years in a row, and with Damian Lillard facing a long recovery from an Achilles injury, doubts about Milwaukee’s immediate future have grown.
Still, recent reports suggest momentum is building for Antetokounmpo to remain in Milwaukee. Portis — who also has a decision to make with his $13.4 million player option — is among those who believe the former MVP isn’t going anywhere.
