[Saba Sports News] Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton openly discussed his mental health issues in an interview, revealing that he has been struggling with depression since he was 13 years old. He ultimately found solace both on and off the track but now wants to see a psychologist. Hamilton acknowledged that this news came after he secured pole position at the British Grand Prix in July and set a record for winning at Silverstone for the ninth time, marking his first victory since December 2021 in Saudi Arabia and ending a 945-day win-less streak. Later, Hamilton faced pain at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix when Max Verstappen prevented him from winning his eighth world championship in one of the most controversial races in motorsport history, which triggered a relapse of his depression. When standing on the podium at the British Grand Prix, fans witnessed Hamilton tearfully celebrating. In response, Hamilton stated that he has felt “pressure” over the years to maintain his leading position in motorsport, so his tears were both a release of joy and an expression of happiness. Hamilton also revealed that after each race, he strives to “calm his mind” and finds activities such as meditation, morning runs, retreats, and reading books about mental health helpful in clearing negative thoughts.
