[Saba Sports News] Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith is being sued following a car accident earlier this month that resulted in serious injuries for pedestrian Alekxei Pino. Driving home in his 2021 Audi A5 after a victory over the Orlando Magic, Highsmith collided with Pino, who was attempting to move a stalled vehicle on a dimly lit road.
The crash led to Pino, 21, losing his right leg, necessitating an above-the-knee amputation, and suffering additional injuries including fractures and a broken arm. Filed by Pino on Friday, the lawsuit claims Highsmith was speeding at the time of the accident.
His lawyer, Manuel Dobrinsky, highlighted Pino’s ongoing hospitalization and the extensive recovery that lies ahead. The lawsuit seeks damages surpassing $50,000. A police report confirmed Highsmith was sober during the incident but noted a citation for “careless and negligent” driving for exceeding the speed limit slightly.
