[Saba Sports News] After the first day of competition at the 2024 China Badminton Masters, former men’s doubles champion pair Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan lost 0-2 to their teammates Sabar Karyaman Gutama / Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, facing an early exit. After the match, both Hendra and Ahsan expressed disappointment, hinting at possible retirement. Hendra mentioned that this was his last match of the year, and he would take a break while thanking everyone for their support. Ahsan followed up Hendra’s post, stating he had decided on his future path, which might include becoming a coach for the Indonesian badminton team, but he is currently waiting to meet with the coach and management of the Indonesian Badminton Association to discuss this, hoping to continue contributing to Indonesian badminton in the future. The 40-year-old Hendra and 37-year-old Ahsan, both having more than one child, are affectionately referred to as the “Dad Pair” by fans. They have fought side by side for 12 years, achieving numerous accomplishments, including three world championship titles in men’s doubles. During a promotional event in China this August, Hendra stated that he does not wish to leave badminton after retirement and may become a coach. Additionally, they have a business plan to jointly operate a badminton hall and restaurant.
