[Saba Sports News] The AlphaTauri team has officially confirmed that former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is part of a group of investors expressing clear interest in acquiring a stake in the team. This statement marks the first time rumors regarding Horner’s potential return to the paddock have been publicly substantiated by the team. Currently, AlphaTauri’s ownership structure consists of two parties: the Renault Group holds a 76% controlling share, while investment firm AlphaTauri Capital owns the remaining 24%. AlphaTauri Capital invested approximately £171 million in 2023, but with the ongoing rise in F1’s commercial value, the market appeal of this stake has significantly increased.
AlphaTauri has confirmed that AlphaTauri Capital has engaged in preliminary exploratory negotiations and is open to selling its shares. Among the various potential buyers, Horner’s name stands out. Since being dismissed from Red Bull last July, the former principal who once led the Red Bull dynasty has largely faded from the public eye, but there has always been speculation that he has not given up the possibility of returning to F1. Now, with AlphaTauri confirming that Horner is indeed among the investors involved in negotiations for AlphaTauri Capital’s shares, it highlights his renewed role.
In my opinion, for Horner, acquiring a stake in the team represents a more secure path to return. Unlike resuming his role as team principal, being a shareholder could allow Horner to re-enter F1 while providing greater space in terms of power and stability.
