[Saba Sports News] Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal recently made startling revelations regarding his exclusion from the upcoming World Cup squad. In a video message, he shed light on the circumstances that led to his decision to withdraw from consideration for the tournament.
Tamim disclosed that he had a candid conversation with a high-ranking official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who informed him that he would be part of the World Cup squad but with certain fitness-related conditions. This included sitting out the opening game against Afghanistan and the possibility of changing his batting position.
Expressing his dismay at the proposed changes, Tamim explained, ‘A top-level board official involved with our cricket told me that I would go to the World Cup, but we have to manage your fitness. He said, ‘You won’t play the opening game against Afghanistan.’ I questioned why, as I believed I would be fit in 10 to 12 days. Then he mentioned, ‘If you play, we plan to send you down the order.’
Tamim, who has consistently batted in the same position for 17 years, found these changes challenging to accept. He felt forced into unfamiliar roles and believed that his consistent performance should have been recognized differently.
