[Saba Sports News] The BWF Super 300 U.S. Open Badminton Championships concluded in Council Bluffs, Iowa. With few top-ranked players competing, the tournament became a stage where veteran and emerging players could battle head-to-head. Zhang Beiwen, representing the United States, defeated India’s 16-year-old prodigy Tanvi Sharma in the women’s singles final—marking her second title in the event after an 11-year gap. Born in December 2008, Sharma began playing badminton at a very young age. Her mother, originally a volleyball player, herself enrolled in badminton lessons to help train her two daughters. At the age of eight, Sharma joined the Gopichand Badminton Academy in India—a renowned institution that has produced stars such as Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth, and Prannoy H.S. At the end of last year, during the Super 100 Odisha Masters tournament, she fought her way into the final but lost to China’s Cai Yanyan, securing the runner-up spot. She currently holds the world No. 66 ranking in women’s singles. With this latest achievement, her global standing is expected to rise significantly.
