[Saba Sports News] The 2025 Malaysia Badminton Open has concluded. As a popular recreational and competitive sport, badminton not only exercises people’s bodies but also promotes social interaction. However, discussions about whether badminton is an aerobic or anaerobic exercise often spark debates among fans. By definition, aerobic exercise refers to physical activities performed with sufficient oxygen supply. Such exercises are characterized by moderate intensity, stable rhythm, and prolonged duration, effectively improving cardiovascular function and endurance; common aerobic exercises include jogging, swimming, and cycling. Anaerobic exercise, on the other hand, refers to physical activities conducted with insufficient oxygen supply. These exercises are characterized by high intensity, fast pace, and short duration, primarily relying on anaerobic metabolism in muscles for energy. Common anaerobic exercises include weightlifting, sprinting, and long jump. Badminton, as a sport that combines running, jumping, and swinging, contains elements of both aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Therefore, badminton can be categorized as a combination of aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
