[Saba Sports News] Recently, Alex Iwobi sparked controversy by complaining about the national team’s hotel on social media. Previously, Iwobi posted a 10-second video where he seemed to mock the standard and location of the hotel where the Nigerian national team was staying in Morocco. He zoomed in on his surprised expression in the room and then shared the view from his window, which showed some beige low-rise buildings with satellite dishes and hanging laundry. The video was widely shared, leading to a flood of hostile comments directed at him, mostly from Moroccans. They pointed out to Iwobi that Rabat has many high-end hotels and that the choice of this hotel was surely agreed upon by the Nigerian Football Federation; some even accused him of being ungrateful. Facing the backlash, Iwobi later posted a new video in response. In the new video, the Nigerian international, lying on his hotel bed, defended himself and tried to defuse the situation. Iwobi said: “I’ve seen some banter, it’s just a perspective thing. Because I filmed the view outside my window, people are saying, ‘This guy is ungrateful,’ but I didn’t say a word. I just made a face, I didn’t say anything. I’m comfortable now, I’m playing Mario Kart, let me focus, we have an important match coming up.”
