During his introduction as Knicks captain on Thursday, Brunson addressed the criticism, stating it didn’t concern him because he’s happy with his decision. “I knew this would give us flexibility and put us in a better position to win,” Brunson said.
“Some people think it’s not smart from an individual standpoint, but I’m comfortable here. This is home. I don’t worry about others’ opinions. I’m focused on what we’re building and how we can improve.”
For Brunson, the only opinions that matter are those of the Knicks and their fans, who have been highly supportive. By signing now, Brunson gave up $113 million in potential earnings, allowing the Knicks more room to navigate the luxury tax and improve roster depth.
