[Saba Sports News] Russell Westbrook has only been with the Denver Nuggets for a few months, but his presence is already felt by his new teammates.
After signing with the Nuggets on a veteran minimum deal this offseason, Westbrook joined a young team full of players who grew up watching him. “I grew up watching him. We all did,” Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray shared, per Katy Winge of *AltitudeTV*. “It’s cool to see him up close and in person.”
Westbrook, a major NBA figure for over a decade, has brought an almost surreal energy to the team. “To look at Russ is like, ‘Oh, damn. That’s Russ,’” Murray added. “Every time he’s in the gym, he lifts everyone’s spirit and awareness.”
Westbrook’s impact on young players like Peyton Watson, now entering his third year, is evident. Watson praised his new teammate, as did Christian Braun, who is aiming for a starting role this season. Braun, an admirer of Westbrook’s game growing up, noted, “I love his game, his energy, and his tenacity. He plays with the right intensity, always tough and aggressive.”
After a disappointing end to their 2024 playoff run, the Nuggets may benefit from Westbrook’s high-octane style to inject fresh energy into their offense.
