[Saba Sports News] Jarrett Allen had been the subject of trade rumors this offseason, but those were put to rest on Wednesday.
Allen agreed to a new three-year, $91 million max contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, guaranteeing him $131 million over the next five years, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Earlier in the offseason, there was uncertainty regarding Allen’s future with the Cavaliers. He missed much of the team’s playoff run with a rib injury, leading some teammates to question his effort to play through the pain. Despite being mentioned as a trade candidate, it was later revealed that star guard Donovan Mitchell supported keeping Allen.
Allen’s status is now settled for the short term. He averaged 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last season and finished tenth in Defensive Player of the Year voting, making him a key player for the Cavs to build around.
