[Saba Sports News] The Boston Celtics drew motivation throughout the postseason from their doubters, and Jaylen Brown even kept a receipt.
Brown was named NBA Finals MVP after the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 on Monday night at TD Garden. On Tuesday morning, Brown shared a screenshot on his Instagram story showing that 89% of bets for the Finals winner were on the Mavericks.
While the 89% figure might be misleading—since it doesn’t account for the total amount wagered—Brown clearly used the doubt as motivation. Despite the betting odds, the Celtics were favored at -225, meaning more money was likely placed on Boston despite fewer individual bets.
In any case, Brown took offense to so many betting on the Mavericks and used the criticism as fuel, leading to a successful outcome for the Celtics.
