[Saba Sports] The Boston Celtics are one game away from raising their 18th championship banner, but Jayson Tatum is already thinking about doing it again next year.
The Celtics won 106-99 over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in any series, let alone the NBA Finals.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Tatum acknowledged the milestone of potentially having the best single-season playoff winning percentage in Celtics history, as the team has gone 15-2 in the postseason.
“That would be really cool,” Tatum said. “But you guys probably would say we didn’t play anybody to get here. So we’ve got to do it again next year.”
While the Celtics had an easier path to the Finals due to injuries to key players on opposing teams, including Jimmy Butler, Donovan Mitchell, and Tyrese Haliburton, the Celtics themselves have dealt with injuries, such as Kristaps Porzingis’.
Ultimately, securing the championship is all that matters.
