The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, achieved an eight-wicket win on the final day, marking their first-ever Test victory over Australia in women’s cricket history.
Rodrigues, who debuted in Test cricket against England, is known for her vibrant personality within the team. The 23-year-old enthusiastically led the post-match festivities, conducting impromptu interviews with her teammates and coaches, including Amol Muzumdar. In the match, Australian captain Alyssa Healy chose to bat first but the team managed only 219 runs, with Tahlia McGrath scoring a fifty. India’s Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana were key in taking four and three wickets respectively. India responded with a strong 406 runs, thanks to half-centuries from four batters. Ashleigh Gardner took four wickets for Australia, but the Australian batting line-up collapsed in their second innings, scoring 261 with McGrath contributing 73. Rana again shone with four wickets, supported by Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Harmanpreet Kaur. Chasing a modest 75, India reached the target in just 18.4 overs, led by Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten 38 off 61 balls.
