[Saba Sports News] Former F1 world champion Jenson Button recently said he feels “jealous” of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll because they have the opportunity to drive cars designed by legendary engineer Adrian Newey. Button joined the Aston Martin team in February this year as an ambassador, primarily handling media and commercial duties. That role has given him close-up access to Newey’s working methods. Button didn’t hide his admiration for the engineering master who has designed multiple championship-winning cars. He said that during his career he raced many Newey-designed cars but never had the chance to drive one himself, and that remains a major regret. He half-jokingly suggested he might get the chance at a demonstration event or a filming day. Button also revealed that he was teammates with Alonso at McLaren; although the team’s competitiveness was limited at the time, the direct comparison with Alonso taught him a great deal.
The editor notes that Button’s “jealousy” toward Alonso and Stroll isn’t personal resentment but rather regret and envy at not having driven a Newey car. That feeling stems from admiration for the technology and design, not a negative comparison with the drivers themselves.
