[Saba Sports News] The Sacramento Kings may already have a frontrunner for their head coaching position.
Following their 120-106 loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Wednesday night’s 9-10 play-in game, the Kings’ season came to an end — and major changes followed.
Reports quickly surfaced that general manager Monte McNair had been fired, with veteran executive Scott Perry set to replace him.
Now, the Kings must decide who will lead the team from the sidelines. After firing Mike Brown in December following a 13-18 start, the team promoted longtime assistant Doug Christie to interim head coach. Christie went 27-24 in the role, and according to *The Athletic*’s Sam Amick, he is “well-positioned to keep the job.”
Christie has deep ties to the franchise, having played five seasons with the Kings from 2000–2005 and earning four NBA All-Defensive team honors. He joined Sacramento’s coaching staff in 2021 and was in his fourth season as an assistant before stepping into the interim role.
With Perry returning to a franchise he previously worked with in 2017, retaining Christie would align with the Kings’ apparent preference for familiar faces in leadership roles.
