[Saba Sports News] he Sacramento Kings finished third in the Western Conference and won the Pacific division in 2022-2023. Despite an early playoff exit by the Golden State Warriors, ownership felt confident keeping head coach Mike Brown. However, the success didn’t last.
In the 2023-2024 season, the Kings ended with a 46-36 record, placing ninth in the Western Conference. They avenged their previous loss to the Warriors in a play-in game but were eliminated by the New Orleans Pelicans shortly after.
According to James Ham of The Kings Beat, this regression has frustrated Kings ownership. “The failure to repeat the success of the previous year hasn’t sat well with ownership, according to sources,” Ham reported. “This shouldn’t be a complicated matter, but like everything else in Sacramento, it is.”
Although Brown’s tenure has brought the most success since 2005-2006, the ownership appears impatient. Rumors of Brown seeking an extension have been put on hold, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Brown has revived the franchise, but if ownership demands immediate results, they risk falling back into a cycle of underperforming head coaches.
