[Saba Sports News] After pulling off multiple blockbuster trades this offseason, the New York Knicks may be eyeing another one.
Knicks writer Kris Pursiainen reported over the weekend that the team has internally discussed a potential trade for Memphis Grizzlies veteran guard Marcus Smart. The Knicks have shown interest in Smart before, but no deal seems imminent.
Reports about the Knicks’ interest in Smart have surfaced over the past few years.
Smart, the 30-year-old former NBA Defensive Player of the Year, joined Memphis last summer in the three-team Kristaps Porzingis trade involving the Celtics and Wizards. He’s owed about $41.8 million over the next two seasons.
This summer, the Knicks made big moves by acquiring Mikal Bridges from the Nets and Karl-Anthony Towns from the Timberwolves, but they also lost some defensive depth at guard (like Donte DiVincenzo and Shake Milton).
Smart averaged 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists last season for the Grizzlies, despite injuries limiting him to just 20 games. While a trade might involve young guard Deuce McBride and other assets, Smart could be a realistic target for the Knicks.
