[Saba Sports News] The power of friendship might be a winning strategy for the New York Knicks.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported Tuesday that the Knicks are interested in signing free agent sharpshooter Davis Bertans. Recently waived by the Charlotte Hornets, the 31-year-old Bertans has boosted his stock with an impressive performance for Latvia at the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers.
Bertans, a career 39.6 percent three-point shooter at 6-foot-10, was teammates with Knicks star Jalen Brunson on the Dallas Mavericks during the 2021-22 season, where they reached the Western Conference Finals.
While Bertans primarily offers three-point shooting and occasional off-the-dribble plays, the Knicks could use his skills. They weakened their frontcourt with Isaiah Hartenstein’s move to Oklahoma City and may not re-sign fellow free agent big man Precious Achiuwa.
The Knicks already made a significant move by trading for one of Brunson’s old college teammates last month. Now they may continue this trend by adding another of Brunson’s former teammates from the Mavericks.
