[Saba Sports News] Kyrie Irving recently shared how he played a role in recruiting Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks. After Thompson and the Golden State Warriors parted ways in the offseason, the Mavericks acquired the five-time All-Star in a sign-and-trade deal in July.
At Mavericks media day, Irving explained how his positive experience in Dallas helped convince Thompson to join. “It was easy to ‘convince’ Klay,” said Irving. “This team does a great job of protecting you, both on and off the court, making sure you feel special.”
Thompson’s performance has declined since his major leg injuries in 2019 and 2020, and last season he struggled with inconsistent shooting, eventually leading to a benching by the Warriors.
Similarly, Irving had off-court challenges in the past but found stability with the Mavericks, where he thrived as Luka Doncic’s co-star, averaging 25.6 points and maintaining a drama-free season.
Now, Irving hopes Thompson can also find a fresh start in Dallas.
